Homemade BBQ Sauce

This homemade barbecue sauce is perfect on grilled meats, burgers, ribs and more! It comes together in a single pan and is full of sweet, savoury flavour.

Everyone loves BBQ sauce, and it finds its way into no end of dishes. Making it yourself is deeply satisfying, and costs a good deal less than the shop-bought kind.

There are far fewer ingredients than in a bottled sauce — just four — and you can adjust them to your own taste. The recipe is straightforward and takes very little time: give it a go!

The smoked paprika does all the work: it is what brings the grilled flavour without a smoker ever being involved.

    Tips

    • Keep the heat low: maple syrup catches on the bottom of the pan quickly.
    • The sauce thickens further as it cools — take it off the heat a little looser than you want it.
    • Adjust the proportions to taste: more syrup for a milder sauce, more vinegar for a sharper one.
    • Serve on grilled meats, burgers and ribs.
